Just imagine if we’d had a striker?

I believe that might have been his first tenure.

I asked the question as I hoped someone with knowledge might kniw.

Willtell - Look again, for some reason that is only a percentage of 35 games for Moyes. And where does it say it's league games only?

Having the odd game where you don't perform but pick up the points anyway is great sign that you're a good team, as long as you otherwise regularly play like you're in control and are on the front foot.

Unfortunately you can't say that about us. Moyes' system is a house built on sand and creates very little cohesion in the team or confidence in the stands.

Sad fact is Burnley are terrible, we'd have lost that match against almost any other team.

Ron Eff 8:10 Mon Nov 27
Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread
I don’t think anyone is arrogant enough to say we should be top 6 or doesn’t expect us to lose games. I find myself waiting to go one goal behind every away game to even give scoring ourselves any thought at all. Happens a lot at home too. If we do manage to blag a set-piece opener, then its properly shop closed until we concede an equaliser.

I don’t mind losing games, but I do mind going to a team like Burnley who are wide open every week and have championship players (Josh Cullen, with all respect, is their captain) and not even try to beat them until the last 10 minutes when we’re 1-0 down.

Sometimes it’s not just about the end result. Home games are lifeless because the fans have become so apathetic, and that’s the real issue with this drab, low risk style of play.

Manuel 7:24 Mon Nov 27
Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread
It's just the style of play, the lack of chances created, poor passing/possession, no pace, too many CM's etc, and on Saturday we just kept passing backwards non stop, apart from the last 10 minutes or so? Also noticed when we were one down with 10 mins or so left JWP was jogging over to take a corner, where was the urgency?

I was bored to death watching that on Saturday, you look forward to a game all week then that is served up. Moyes is only looking after himself, but when you have over 50k season ticket holders you have to give them something to enjoy, ffs.

How many milliond had Moyrd wasted in misuse of players...???
And ending up with no effective striker...
Sacking offenses in my opinion...

So you expect us to be in the top 6 then.

Just out of curiosity but what teams have been in the champions league that have spent less than us then?

Vexed 2:03 Mon Nov 27
Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread
I'd expect to be higher than mid table with 450m spent on players. But I guess I'm just an unrealistic dreamer to expect such things. Teams get champions league football spending less than that FYI.

Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Vexed.

I have agreed the football is poor and people have the right to want to change the manager as they pay good money to follow the team. Did you read that part or just being selective as normal?

You say he’s hugely underperforming.

If that the case where do you expect us to be in terms of league position at this moment?

Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Well the no striker situation is criminal with the players we have, that is down to Moyes.

Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread
No, I think the issue is if you play a style that means you can ordinarily only win by the odd goal, you’re going to come unstuck more than you should. Brentford and Everton for example. It leads to underachieving. We have good enough players to compete with the likes of Villa, Brighton and others. And yes I know we beat Brighton but that was the anomaly rather than the norm.

I’d just genuinely love to see what a manager who plays on the front foot could do with this squad. Oh, and one that signs a striker and knows what to do with one.

I honestly don't get why you repeatedly defend Moyes despite the absolute truckload of evidence that he's hugely underperforming. Thats even before you take into account the hideous football that even makes winning a miserable experience, see yesterday.

If you're pro Moyes you're anti West Ham and that's about the fucking size of it, cunt.

Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread
Practically every other current manager that has been at a Premiership club for more than a couple of years would have spent the most than any other manager before them has spent as well.

It’s called inflation along with the Premiership clubs getting more and more from TV deals each year.

It’s like saying Steve Cooper has spent much more than Brian Clough.

As for having an already decent squad, we didn’t look that decent considering we were in the bottom 4 when he took over.

I just listed our net spend over the past 5 years.

We are 8th in that list. We are currently 9th in the table, top of our Europa group and in the quarts final of the league cup so barely underachieving.

I totally understand people that want a change due to the style of football. They (most of them anyway) pay a lot of money to go and watch us play and deserve to be entertained but as far as results go I would say the past 4 years have been fairly good in comparison to much of our history.

Ron Eff 11:48 Sun Nov 26
Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread
I don’t need stats to know we created zero chances in the first half against a Burnley side with zero points at home all season, and didn’t properly lay a glove until the last 15 minutes, which is typical of what we’ve heard Moyes tells the players. This is a Burnley side who play so openly with limited players that they have conceded the most about of chances of any team and the 2nd most goals.

Yeh, we scraped through in the end and we won. Everyone is pleased we won of course, and if you think that’s good enough, fair play, but not for me.

I’ve said before, if you put a De Zerbi or an Emery or similar in charge of this squad of players, you’d see a much better brand of football, and I expected improved results. I’d back them both to have won that cup last year, too.

Yeah, all he needed was the most money any West Ham manager has ever spent, an already half decent squad and a very favourable draw against mostly pub teams.

What a fucking manager we have on our hands. We should erect a statue of Moyes.

Re: ⚽ Burnley v West Ham - Official Match Thread
There will always be a negative stat possession , shots passes, we just ain’t the perfect club never will be, but for us that go, I have enjoyed Europe and winning a trophy and all that comes with that, thanks Moyes for that because I didn’t see much from any manager since 85-86 and perhaps the Redknapp era.
